Oil Drums - Makes Sense

Here's a post that combines two of my favorite musical things: odd cover songs and corporate sponsorship of LPs. No date on this disc, but based on the contents it's likely mid-1960's.

A short history of the Esso/Trinidad Steel band is here.

The Caboose Gets Loose

Here's a slightly non-traditional bluegrass band album from 1981. Besides the influences sneaking in from 70's pop and rock, it is an Ambisonic Recording (i.e., early surround-sound format). Unfortunately, i don't own any Ambisonic decoding gear, but it sounds fine in stereo.

Loose Caboose - Stay All Night (AMB 5203)

Stay All Night
Someday Soon
Peaceful Easy Felling
Dancing In The meadow
Hobo's Lullaby
Johnson Boys
Kickin' Mule

I've Just Seen A Face
Over The Waterfall
If He's Gone
Midnight Flyer
Sweet Baby James
Orange Blossom Special
Wee Wee Pot

A story from their reunion show 22 years later that also gives details about the formation of the band:

Trini Meeny Miny Moe

Here's something refreshing as the heat of summer starts to roll in - Trini Lopez shilling, I mean, being a bonus for buying frosty Fresca. In case you kids can't figure out why that hole is there in the top triangle, it's because back in the day we bought our drinks in glass bottles, and this item hung from the neck of the bottle in the carton. Yes, the fourth track is a commercial jingle.

Trini Lopez - Sings His Greatest Hits

A-Me-Ri-Ca
Kansas City
If I Had A Hammer
The Blizzard Song
