Really? Not Even The Chair?
Apparently Neil Diamond has a hit record.
"NEW YORK, Nov. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Neil Diamond's critically-acclaimed new album, 12 Songs, has debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 and is the artist's first album to debut in the Top 10."
Not that Neil is a stranger to high chart rankings:
"12 Songs is the 14th Neil Diamond album to reach the Top 10, the 20th to hit Top 20, the 31st to make Top 50 and the 45th to break into the Billboard Top 200, placing the artist at #6 on the all-time list of male vocalists with the most Top 200 albums (after Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, James Brown, and Willie Nelson)."
Still, who exactly is buying Neil Diamond albums these days, and where are they hearing it (if that's what's driving them to purchase it)? I can't really imagine any current radio format playing this album.
So, rather than strain my brain trying to understand the success of the new album, I'll take this opportunity to revisit one of my favorite covers of a ND song. While The Monkees' version of "I'm a Believer" is great, this is the cover that I'm most likely to listen to these days. It's from the 1987 album "Little Baby Buntin' " by Madison, Wisconsin's Killdozer.
Killdozer - I Am, I Said
And, just for fun, here's the best track on the album:
Killdozer - 3/4" Drill Bit
Labels: Neil Diamond Killdozer "I Am I Said" "Little Baby Buntin"

I, too, wonder who is buying that ND record--but as to how they're hearing it or hearing of it, little things like The Today Show & the NYT & basically all syndicated media outside radio have probably been instrumental. BTW some Rubin magic can be heard on the thing. Captain of a Shipwreck is a song I could not imagine ND pulling out of his velours all by himself.
Your blog keeps getting better and better! Your older articles are not as good as newer ones you have a lot more creativity and originality now keep it up!
