A Late Spring Break

Here's a New Airwaves (WUTK-FM) show from spring break 1984, with your hosts Q and Echo.

On a personal note, I was on the Outhouse Tape that night (though it's not on this recording), the promo of which was mauled by the hosts.

Old Airwaves

WUTK's New Airwaves from July 8, 1984 (thank you google and bands that list their 1980's tour dates on their websites for allowing me to determine this exact date). Unfortunately the "Outhouse Tapes" Clutch Cargo interview with Wh-Wh didn't make it onto the tape.

(If you've got a copy of the 1977 National Lampoon album "That's Not Funny, That's Sick!" that this segment's Mr Rogers parody comes from, I be interested in hearing the full sketch.)

Sunday night means...

New Airwaves.
This show is from 4-22-84. Zex (?), Echo, Q, and Ram* are the hosts on this "Thomas Dolby Weekend."

The "Outhouse Tapes" feature Tim Glaser of The Mental Rebates and the song "Carbon Is Forever."

More New Airwaves

This show is (as best we can determine) from the summer of 1984, based on the announcement of an upcoming Dissocial/STDs show at Vic N Bills (possible flyer here). Thanks to CMP and JoeTheLion for help in narrowing down the date.

In addition to local rockers the STDs, this show also features an "Outhouse Tape" song from the Arbitraries ("Walking Around").

This show is primarily hosted by "Q" on his own.

Echo...echo...echo...echo

Today we get a New Airwaves from WUTK featuring your host Echo runnig solo (mostly - there are some folks* hanging around in the studio, but they're mostly off-mic) as Q has "disappeared" since it's his birthday weekend.

*a regular who's who of the old days: Dave Smalley, Albert Dale, a guy named Jeff and a girl named Jill.

Music For a Different Society

According to my scrawl on the spine of the box containing the 7" reel-to-reel tape upon whose magnetic particles this recording was archived, Music For a Different Society aired on WUTK (90.3 FM) from 10Pm until 2 Am on Sunday nights. As this later became the New Airwaves time slot, and some of the announcers sound familiar, I'm supposing that this was the precursor to New Airwaves, and that perhaps the name got changed when the show went in a more "new wave" direction (If you were involved in this show or New Airwaves, or just otherwise have relevant details, please feel free to add info in the comments).

Edit: It appears that Charlie Lytle was the main host of this program.
