The Full Chety

Way back in 2010 I posted a four song EP titled Chet Atkins Finger Style Guitar (Volume One) with the promise that I would post any further volumes if I found them. Well, I didn't find any further volumes of the EPs, but I did find the full length album that contains the EP and (presumably) the other tracks that would have made up further EP volumes (two more, if my math is correct). This album is just Chet and (sometimes) a very quiet snare drummer.

Once again I have to comment on the great cover photo with that aqua shirt and red guitar.

Mild Wheat Numbers in the Slightie

In 1992 WUTK-FM released a fundraising album titled "Meanwhile Somewhere in the 90's" which included 12 songs from various local artists. A 12 track album could not then (and still couldn't) represent the full breadth of the musical scene in Knoxville (especially one that didn't have any contributions from such notables as Terry Hill and Scott Miller, or which didn't have any jazz or punk). Taking things into their own hands under the guidance of John "Immature Scientist" Tilson, 17 other bands promptly popped out this cassette-only release, featuring sounds from the less-poppy more-indie end of the spectrum.

(Full disclosure - I engineered 3 or 4 of these tracks, and #14 is my band).

You can listen in two ways: via a continuous mp3 stream (just like listening to a cassette) or you can download WAVs in a zipped folder.

Special thanks to John for digging around for a few months until he found the original master cassette.

I Was a Bit Waring of this Album

I'm a fan of Pennsylvanian bandleader Fred Waring and his peppy polkas and cheerful Christmas classics. This, however, is probably not something that will make its way onto my turntable again. It's an Easter pageant (or as we used to call them, a cantata) full of lugubrious music, recitations, and a soaring choir. It's well done if you like that sort of thing.

Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians - The Song of Easter

Decca ‎– DL 74511

A1 The Song Of Easter
A2 Ave Maria
A3 Holy, Holy, Holy
B1 The Holy City
B2 The Palms
B3 Before The Crucifix
B4 When I Survey The Wondrous Cross
B5 O Day Of Rest And Gladness
